You can find all sorts of equipment while looting, and it can be useful to scrap some of the extra ones for XP. Just go to your Workshop, and scrap weapons and armor individually. You can also tap on the trashcan icon in the bottom left to choose multiple items to scrap at one time.

In addition, when you receive a new equipment from the crates, you can tap on the picture to scrap it the item.
